2013 Dublin PROUD Writing Contest Grades 4 through 8

  • Entries should be no more than 700 words, typed and double-spaced in WORD format. (PDF will not be accepted.) Entries will be judged on creativity, topic development, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

  • The following personal information MUST be included in the top, left-hand corner of the first page. This information will NOT be included in the 700 maximum word count.

Title of the Work

  • Students are permitted to submit ONE entry per category but are encouraged to participate in TWO categories of their choosing: fiction, personal essay and poetry.

  • Personal essays MUST relate to a student’s life experiences. Non-fiction pieces in report format (e.g. Thomas Edison is credited with many inventions) or those that are persuasive in nature (e.g. … and that’s why we need to save the polar bear) will not be accepted.

  • All entries MUST be submitted online — as an attachment — by 11:59 PM on Sunday, March 3, 2013 to the following mailboxes. (Do not include entries in the body the email.)

  • All entries will initially be screened by a group of community volunteers, parents and teachers. Professional writers and editors will then judge the chosen finalists.

  • Finalists will be notified via the contact email provided by Wednesday, March 27. All finalists will be invited to attend an evening Awards Ceremony tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 8 in Dublin. The top two winners from each category, in each grade, will be automatically entered into the Central Ohio Writing Contest (Judging takes place in April. Awards Ceremony takes place in May.)
